Goodbye 2020!!! (I think we were all happy to say goodbye to last year!)
2021 has finally arrived so it’s time for the third installment of the remote TIA-42 Engineering Committee’s quarterly meetings, all broadcasting from the comfort of home for most of us.
As we look back at the challenging business environment we were forced into during 2020, I can confidently say that the TIA-42 Engineering Committee and all its members adjusted to the new normal, conducting business expeditiously and productively, all in a virtual environment. It was an unexpected and pleasant surprise to see how smoothly things went.
Sure, the common remote meeting jokes (such as "mute yourself," "can you please not type so loud," "nice hair," or "where are your pants?") were heard often, but overall there were no big concerns. It was amazing to see how more than 75 of the industry’s passionate minds, all remote and in different locations, were able to collaborate and engage in spirited debates productively over fiber optic standards. I am excited for the opportunity to participate in these meetings again next week.
All the excitement kicks off shortly after the opening plenary presentations. To start off the week, the various TR-42 subcommittees are holding elections for the Chair and Vice-Chair positions.
Nominees have already been submitted for each subcommittee. Included in these elections will be:
Good luck to all nominees!
Of course, as always, document development continues with:
I am also looking forward to the much talked about and highly anticipated Contributions and Presentations of the CS Connector FOCIS19 (fiber optic connector intermateability standards) Comment Resolutions, and the IEC standard adoption update.
Keep in mind that all this will be done on the TIA Connects website, our new online platform, having migrated away the old TIA FTTP site. This should bring super new efficiency but may have a hiccup or two. We shall see.
So, stay tuned for further updates as the week of committee meeting progress.
