How to Get the Most out of Your Fiber Optic Network Cables

August 16, 2012 by Teri Kelly

When installing fiber optic network cables, we always tell our customers to inspect their fiber optic connector end-faces, clean them if necessary, and inspect again. We know it’s important because end-face contamination is a major cause of network outages and downtime. But what should you use to inspect in the first place?

I look to the Noyes OFS 300/200C Optical Microscope (shown right) for an answer. The OFS300 has a universal cap that accepts several different thread-on style adapter caps. This includes LC, SC, FC, ST and MTP®/MPO adapter caps, which can be ordered separately.

The OFS300 can be used in the field to inspect fiber optic cable connectors for scratches, dirt or dust that can affect performance. It’s an easy way to make sure you’re getting the most out of your fiber optic network cables!
